Description:
Girl Scouts participating in this virtual program will learn all about the different steps of digital game design, as well as create their very own video game. This event will be geared toward Brownies and Juniors.
Your instructor is Stephen Souders, otherwise known as Mr MYTEK. Stephen has worked in the field of information technology since he was 15 years old when he began his career by working for an ISP while still in high school. He holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems from Florida Gulf Coast University and a master's degree in Computer Information Systems from Kennesaw State University. Over the years, Stephen has worked specifically in the web development field, managed an Information Technology department, and taught classes at Georgia Highlands College for over 6 years. Stephen and his wife, Jacky, opened MYTEK LAB. Together, they have been teaching technology education to students of all ages since February 2015.
BEFORE THE PROGRAM: All parents/guardians will need to create a free Parent Account for MYTEK LAB. You can do this by visiting myteklab.com. Once your Parent Account is activated, please create a free MYTEK LAB student account for the Girl Scout who is registered for this program. All girls participating in this program will need a MYTEK LAB student account so we ask that you please complete this process immediately upon registering for this program.
Program information:
Program takes place on Thursday, September 24th from 5:00pm – 6:30pm EDT via ZOOM. This program is open to Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Girl Scout Members and registration is $15/girl. While the program will cover all steps of the Senior Website Designer badge, the badge is not included. Badges are available for purchase at the Girl Scouts of Citrus Council shop by emailing Shop@citrus-gs.org.
Technical Requirements:
This workshop will be facilitated via ZOOM and MYTEK LAB's digital platform. The presenters from MYTEK LAB and Girl Scouts of Citrus will be sharing their screen to demonstrate the steps of creating a website using MYTEK LAB's Web Development application. Each girl participating will be required to set up a free parent and student account through the MYTEK LAB website. It is recommended that girls have a second device if they are wanting to follow along and design their website at the same time (e.g. 2 screens, cell phone/tablet to watch zoom and a computer for the video game). If girls do not have two devices, the presentation portion of this session is recorded and they are able to rewatch it later on while creating their website (girls will not be in the recording).
