The fix is structured, project-based instruction with feedback and rising challenge, so they move from following instructions to making their own decisions.

How can homeschool parents measure progress in a coding class?

Watch for these signs over time: your child can explain what they personally created, build without exact instructions, adapt when the goal changes, find and fix their own problems, explain the concepts behind the project, take on genuinely harder work, and apply a skill in a different tool. The more of these that are true, the more real the progress.
