Terrians
Thanks to natali & Peril for helping with ideas!
The Terrians live in the center of the continent in a forested swamp, where they worship the essence of nature itself.
Appearance: Terrians can come in greens, browns, grays, and occasionally, usually if they are born in autumn, reds and golds. They are said to be closely related to the Quetzalcoat tribe, though by now, their feathers are limited to patches and tufts. They also have large antlers. However, unlike a deer's antlers, they don't shed. They also have leaf-shaped wings.
Abilities: Terrians have the ability to magically shape and control soil and stone. The most powerful can alter whole landscapes. Their powers are enhanced if they are born on the spring or autumn equinox.
They also have powerful night vision.
However, their vision still has limits sometimes, especially in winter. For this reason, they can light up their horns, which produces an effect similar to the light of fireflies.
Society:
Terrians don't believe in one dragon having all the power in their society. Instead, respected members of the community are chosen to make decisions and settle conflicts. If a member of the council isn't being a good leader, other council members or dragons in the community may call for their removal.
One dragon is appointed as the (Need Title) who's main job is to keep everything orderly during meetings and have the final say in certain situations.
Home/Family
Homes are usually quite simple and they are usually mud.
Inside a home there will most likely be: a place to keep food, a fireplace, a space for dragons to eat and work, a spot for personal belongings and creations, and reed beds for dragons to sleep on.
They spend most of their time outside, wanting to enjoy the beauty of nature.
Family members are close and do their best to care for each other.
Celebrations:
A celebration is held on the spring and autumn equinoxes. Little is known about this celebration, as it is a well-kept tribe secret, but it is said to be a magical experience.
Sometimes, Terrians can be found having mud fights, showing off a more playful aspect of their personalities. It is unknown if they have a holiday relating to this or not.
Another exciting time is the Summer Sculpting contest, where Terrians from all villages travel to the Council's stronghold, where dragons will show off their pottery and sculptures in hopes of them being placed in the stronghold's halls.
The Stronghold
A somewhat castle-like structure where the Terrian council, their families, and the dragons who work for them reside.
Naming System:
A dragon's last part of their first name depends on what season they were hatched in. Like most other tribes, the first part of the name is chosen by the parents.
A Terrian hatched in spring has a last name of Flower, Bird, Morning, Weed, Swamp, or Call.
A Terrian hatched in summer has a last name of Rush, Creek, Tree, Marsh or Light
A Terrian hatched in autumn has a last name of Leaf, Fall, Wood, or Flight
A Terrian hatched in winter has a last name of Rock, Snow, Frost, Mist, or Cloud.
A dragon also has a family name. Family names do not change after marriage. A dragonet of a married couple is given the family name of [Mother's family name]-[Father's family name] until the dragonet's coming age ceremony, where they choose family name they want to go by.
Products:
Terrians are most well known for pottery and sculptures,
They also produce amber jewelry.
Terrians sometimes will try to get a hold of metals and jewels, sometimes for accessories, other times because they want experiment with their powers by testing out their control over substances other than stone and soil and sand.
Known For:
Being peaceful, and also a bit shy and secretive, though they are generally friendly towards other tribes.
Skill at healing.
A knack for producing high-quality pottery and sculptures.
A fierce devotion towards nature and their home.
Believing that everyone's equal and that all the dragon tribes are basically family.
Import/Export
Terrians import Réaltan stone and wood, and sometimes a small amount of jewelry
Heliosion lanterns and and sometimes precious metals
Thoughts on Other Tribes(as told by the average Terrian)
Quetzalcoats: They're so much like us and they're probably our closest relatives, even if they do have a bit more color than us. They have a great mastery over poison and antidotes and they're not usually ones to go to war.
Heliosions: They are brave, fiery, cheerful, and not afraid to speak out, even though they tend to burn a bit too hot when they feel strong emotions.
Suhtakas: Like us, they are affiliated with a form of earth with their ability to create sandstorms. They are quite the survivors, though they're a tad too stern. And that war with the Shucians...what reason did they have to start that? And they don't trust us in the least...what if they stage an attack?
Shucians: An exciting new tribe. They wish to know everything about the world, even though the war with the Suhtakas must have discouraged them. We're still unsure what they think of us though
Réaltans: They're brilliant artists and inventors and they're admired for their studies. And their most beautiful spots are open to all tribes! But they don't seem to trust us and we have our doubts as to if we can trust them. If the rumors that Spotbird has spies in other territories are true the Re'altans are likely the most watched along with the Suhtaka.
Huunhli: Out of all the tribes, we have the most interaction with them, which still isn't that much. They're a little bit like us, but why must they constantly push the other tribes away? We hardly know anything about them...does that make them dangerous?
Mermizu: One of the most peaceful tribes there is. They don't care for wars or expanding territory...if only everyone else was like that!
Current leaders of the Terrians:
Woodlight is the Need Title on the Terrian Council.
Woodlight is a kind leader, but also firm when needed.
She is intelligent and genuinely cares about her tribe.
Mallardcall seems to be oddly agitated most of the time.
This could be from the stress of being a leader, but some say there's another reason for it.
He unnerves other members of the council by defending his opinions in a very insistent way.
In major situations, he occasionally takes it too far and disrupts the whole meeting.
He tries to do what's best for the tribe, though some other dragons wonder if he should step down because of the constant stress he always seems to be in.
Spotbird is a quiet leader whose goals have never been clear.
Others are naturally suspicious of her and she seems suspicious of them.
She's unusually worried about happenings in other tribes.
There are rumors that she has spies in the territories of certain tribes, which would be odd for a mostly peaceful tribe.
No one knows Spotbird's reason for being like this.
Strangely, some of the dragons working in the palace have said that Spotbird and Mallardcall are often caught whispering in the halls of the stronghold...
